  • Vice president of the Aurora Scottish Dance and Music committee in 2010-2011.
  • Programme representative for the MSc in Information Technology at the University of Aberdeen (2010-2011).
  • Steward at the InterVarsity Folk Dance Festivals (IVFDF) of 2008, in Sheffield, and 2010, in Durham.
  • Publicity convenor on the committee for the Aberdeen University Scottish Dance Society for 2007/2008; also re-designed and managed the society web site.
  • Member on the committee of Aurora Scottish Dance and Music in Aberdeen (2007-2010); also member of their web team.
  • Class representative at the University of Aberdeen during my first, second and fourth years of study (2006-2010).

Interests and hobbies

Music and arts

  • Theatre and acting – Have been involved in various amateur shows, most recently the Aberdeen Students’ Charities Campaign’s Student Show in 2008.
  • Drawing, painting and digital arts – Started doing web design at age twelve.
  • Composing music – I have been making music (mainly pop, with the occasional foray into other genres) since age twelve, and performed at a number of local festivals (see http://imaginatron.bandcamp.com for demo recordings).
  • Musical instruments: Trombone (took lessons for five years), guitar (took lessons for two years), piano (self-taught), synthesizer (self-taught), accordeon (self-taught), tin whistle (self-taught).

Sports and outdoor activities

  • Scottish country and ceilidh dancing (also some amateur Highland dancing).
  • Swing dancing – mainly Lindy Hop.
  • Iwama Ryu Aikido – Practiced for one and a half year and acquired a 6th Kyu.
  • Scouting – I have been a scout since age eight. I was assistant cub scout leader in the local scout group for two years (August 2002 – May 2004) and maintained the same scout troop’s web site for a number of years.
